Manufacturing Process
1. Product Design & Development
The front panel is developed according to the set top box dimensions, display position, LED indicators, buttons, switches, IR sensor, PCB arrangement, and enclosure interfaces. CAD drawings, 3D models, technical specifications, or physical samples can be used for development.
2. Plastic Mould Design
A dedicated injection mould is designed according to the front-panel geometry. Parting line, cavity configuration, gate location, ejection system, cooling channels, draft angles, mounting bosses, ribs, openings, and wall-thickness distribution are considered for reliable moulding.
3. Mould Manufacturing
The mould components are precision-machined, assembled, finished, and inspected. P20 Steel, H13 Steel, S136 Steel, or another suitable mould material can be selected according to production quantity, surface-finish requirements, and expected mould life.
4. Injection Moulding
The selected plastic resin is heated and injected into the mould cavity under controlled processing conditions. After cooling and solidification, the mould opens and the finished front panel is ejected.
5. Finishing & Assembly Preparation
Moulded front panels are inspected for flash, gate marks, sink marks, warpage, scratches, burn marks, and other visible defects. Trimming or secondary finishing can be performed where required.
6. Quality Inspection
Finished front panels are checked for overall dimensions, display and indicator openings, button fitment, IR sensor alignment, mounting features, surface finish, and compatibility with the complete set top box enclosure.
Raw Materials
| Material | Typical Application |
|---|---|
| ABS | Common choice for electronic front panels requiring good appearance and dimensional performance |
| HIPS | Lightweight electronic enclosure and front-panel applications |
| PP | Lightweight applications requiring suitable flexibility and impact characteristics |
| PC+ABS | Applications requiring a balance of strength, dimensional stability, and appearance |
| PC | Applications requiring higher impact and dimensional performance |
| PBT | Engineering applications requiring dimensional and thermal stability |
| Nylon | Applications requiring higher mechanical strength where suitable |
| Glass-Filled Nylon | Structural applications requiring increased stiffness and strength |
| Flame-Retardant Plastic | Applications requiring specific electrical and flame-performance characteristics |
The final resin should be selected according to the set top box's operating temperature, electrical environment, impact requirements, cosmetic requirements, flame-performance requirements, and applicable product specifications.
